Come Home with NASA, Now. Part 1: A Small Practice for Returning to Now

Meditation gets a bad rap. People imagine monks, incense, and a brain that finally goes quiet. Instead you get a head full of grocery lists. This isn’t that. It’s about four minutes, one easy guided experiment called Come Home with NASA, Now. No mat, no mantra, no failure allowed. Just hit play and see what your mind does when someone gently points it home. Fair warning: it might actually work.

There are days when I feel like a visitor in my own life, moving through the rooms of my day as if I had landed here from somewhere far away and could not quite remember the way back. I suspect many of us know that feeling, a quiet homesickness for a presence that never actually left us. Something in me wants to “phone home,” as E.T. put it in Steven Spielberg’s 1982 film, and over the years I have found that a few minutes of simple practice is the gentlest way I know to make that call. If you have always found meditation hard, I made this short series with you in mind, because these practices take only a few minutes and there is nothing in them you need to get right.
